Why are prefects expected to be "better" than the rest?

Many people have high expectations towards prefects, but have the teachers or other outsiders thought about our feelings or care if we are able tomeet their very very high expectations? I have never like being a prefect, because being a prefect to me, have too many restrictions and have to sacrifice too many things.
We are to do duties duting the morning assembly and recess. We tried our very best to get students to sit down. Me, personally, thinks that I have done my best for morning assembly because i did ask them to sit and even at certain points of time i screamed at the top of my voice. But not every prefect is that "courageous" to do that. This have to be trained up, but no time was allowed for us to improve. Sometimes i would even think if it was worth it. We didn't get that type of respect or even a certain kind of recognition from teachers. If more encouragement was given, I'm sure we would do a better job.
During recess time, prefects sacrifices our time to do duties, although to some, we are just standing around doing nothing, but i have seen prefects trying their best to ask them to put back the plates but in the end, they have to put it back themselves because they didn't dare to go further.
At many times, prefects go to our prefect master to tell him that we want to quit, I have done that before also. It is not that we don;t want to do our duties, it's just that we would never be up to the standard in which the teachers expect us to be. I don;t think anyone wants to put the prefect master in a difficult position, but there are certain demanding teachers.
I come to know of an ex-prefect, which i don't want to name, was being taken of his/her tie by a teacher just because he/she forgets to bring a textbook. In my point of view, i think it's a little too much. Prefects are no different from other students, they are appointed because their teachers see the 'X-factor' in them and want them to be trained up to be a leader. Abd i don;t think that it means for prefect to be perfect? This prefect then was not a prefect after that because he/she didnl't feel the fairness and a certain degree of understanding from the teachers.
You know why prefects try not to attend monthly general meeting because to them it is a chore. Please mind me okay. It's a chore because they have to spend time listening to the exco or prefect master of how to do better on our duties as the teachers are still not satisfied. There seems to be no praises although there were effort put in.
Prefects were suppose to be role modles of the student population, but i think a small minority of prefects have not done their part in keeping up our image. So i think we should have some reflections upon our behaviour as well and i think that certain teachers have think too "highly" of prefects.
Who set the rule that prefects cannot be angry, cannot scold friends. Those who know me will know that I talk very loudly and I will definitely scold if something was not done properly after clear instructions. I was once scolded by a teacher because she saw me screaming at my friend. She jump to conclusion that i was at fault for screaming at my friend. It's like she didn't know the actual story? I'm quoting this statement from that teacher: "You're a prefect, how can you be shouting at your friend!" Frankly speaking, I would not forget this statement for life and it's unreasonable! There are so many times i find it not worth. Putting on the tie doesn't mean i have to take strong in front of people all the time, I also want to have fun. Just because we are selected to become prefects, we can't do what normal students do. At certain times, i also want to be playful and have more freedom. Just because we are pefect, we must be the odd-one-out?
Ankle socks is a great prblem right? You can say it's due to peer pressure, but for me, i don't think that's the case. I only feel that ankle socks are more cooling and i don't like those high BV socks 'wrapping' around my leg- it's too uncomfortable! Rules of not allowed to wear ankle socks, a must to wear tie and a prefect badge, we have to already try to follow as closely as possible but who had appreciated our efforts? The weather is so hot nowadays and we have to bear with it for we are a prefect!
Many more people notice and show appreciation, a little thank you will do! I believe that it brightens the day of a prefect you know! Is not that we want others to take note or sing praises of prefects, but saying thank you is just basic courtesy!
Maybe we will get use to it as time goes by. But although there are unhappiness and the overbearing ecpectations, there are also fun and joy in the prefectorial board. Like camps at the end of the year!
Really looking forward to our hardwork paying off!

Tay Seow Suan 3/3 with love...
